Come out and have fun. Show our city that we need another park. We will be documenting the day with video and photos so we can edit together a video for our park proposal. Hope to see you there.

Next meeting.

The next meeting we are having will be April 8th at The Earth House . We are starting at 6. Bring ideas and friends. We will talk about the 24th and the future. Come show your support for the new park.

Earth House has a coffee shop as well as a great menu.

Park Ideas

I thought it might be a cool idea to keep the blog alive by posting pictures of parks around that we go and skate. Hopefully through this we can use the pictures to come to an agreement of what would be good for a park and more of the direction we would like to go.

On Saturday a bunch of us went to Greencastle, IN to skate there 10,000 ft2 park. The park was built by Wally Holiday. There are some cool things in the park but the flow is limited and there is some space that could have been used better.

Here is a cool "noping" section that green castle has. Very simple and fun for everyone (bikes and skateboards)



Here is a miniramp area with a spine. The flow is limited here and people normally get stuck in this section going back and forth. The "Taco" rail is almost unskateable.



Ah Wally Holiday and his bowls. I would love to be able to skate this everyday, however I very rarely find anyone in this bowl. A very big hole and a lot of concrete for the amount of usage.



When I got dropped off at my car I decided to document how crowded Lake Sullivan was. With this amount of people it is very hard and hazardous to skate or ride the park. However with limited amount of spaces the few parks we have seem to fill up pretty quick.

FIRST MEETING!

Mark your calendars, March 4th 2010, the first meeting towards advocacy to have another skate park built in our beautiful city of Indianapolis. This started as a small group living in the downtown area and is slowly growing to the population of skateboarders and bmx riders in Indianapolis. Today we just kind of threw some ideas around but the purpose of this blog is to inform of meetings and happenings related to the park. I will try to keep it updated as much as possible. If you have stuff you think should be shared feel free to email me the links tdevlin@umail.iu.edu. Also if you feel the need to get involved PLEASE let us know. We did today loosely tack down the objectives we are trying to accomplish.

1. We are trying to push for a park of a smaller size around 5,000 to 10,000 sq ft.
2. We want the park to have quality lighting 24 hours a day to detour vandalism and ensure a place to ride all day and night.
3. We want the park to be family friendly. We want families to feel safe and encouraged to stay with their young riders.
4. With this in mind we would like to infuse the normal park objects benches, trashcans, bathrooms, etc. into skateable objects.
5. We want a CONCRETE park poured by PARK BUILDERS not sidewalk builders, no prefab.
6. We are looking to make a simple park with no wasted space.
7. We are starting a petition to show how strongly the skate park would be back in Indianapolis.
